I’d like to begin this letter by thanking you for simply taking the time to read it; our click-happy, fast-paced culture has made correspondence like this a privilege. Consider for me the following proposition –

that everything in our life is nothing more than a state of mind….

Think about it: what is love, happiness, sorrow, hatred, health, poverty, prosperity, anger, friendship, attitude, loyalty or fear? They’re just a state of mind, a metaphorical lens through which we perceive and judge ourselves and the world around us.

We therefore, have the ability to control what our state of mind will be.

Most people awaken in the morning with one of two states of mind: “Today I feel great and want to accomplish something of value” or “Oh no, it’s not time to get up and go to work already is it?!” It’s a state of mind. We get in our car and head off to work, when suddenly someone cuts us off in traffic. Instantly, we are angry at the other driver, and we arrive at work only to be criticized by our boss for work we have done, and what happens? We pout and feel sorry for ourselves.

The uncomfortable truth is we have allowed someone else’s actions to shape our state of mind. Why on earth would we do that? It often results from what I term the fear of criticism. But being intimidated or afraid of what someone else will think of us is actually allowing a figment of imagination to control our state of mind by a person who, in many cases, we don’t even know!

You wouldn’t think of allowing a total stranger (or even someone you know) to reach into your bank account any time they wanted and take whatever amount of money from it they like- so why would you allow other people to reach into your mind and control your outlook, your state of mind, and the results that you receive for your day’s effort?

Men and women who succeed to great heights in life develop the habit of a strong, very focused state of mind. Through a process known as hypnagogic imagery, that positive, productive state of mind becomes a habit that creates the very future we will experience in our lives – a sort of self-fulfilling prophecy.

Success or failure is nothing more than the direct result of a person’s state of mind.

Think about the most successful people you know. What is their constant state of mind? How do they evaluate opportunities and possibilities, successes and failures? Now look at the most unsuccessful people you know… could it be possible their results stem from their state of mind?

Wealth and success do not come from money, power or fame. They derive from a state of mind that uncompromisingly drives people toward success. Negative states of mind breed weakness; positive states of mind foster strength. When our worldview or self-image is negative, mole hills seem like mountains: everything and everyone seem to be working against us.

A positive state of mind makes mountains seem like mole hills and everyone and everything seem to be working with us. Mistakes can either be viewed as either an error to be learned from or as failure (read: defeat). If we have the choice of what our daily state of mind can be, why would we choose to have a negative state of mind?

God gave each and every one of us the greatest gift possible, one that separates us from the animals of this world and that is the gift of free will, the right to choose. The right to choose our direction in life, our mate, how many children we want, where we will live and our level of success!

Most of all, He gave us the ability to CHOOSE OUR STATE OF MIND.

Let us here at Larry Halt International help you choose yours, and coach your employees to do the same.

The heights to which you can rise are limited only by your choices.

Yours sincerely,

Larry Halt
